Every movie fan has that group of movies that are considered ‘guilty pleasure’ favorites. There are definitely a ton of good movies every single year, but there are also ones that don’t always get the best ratings that are still loved by fans everywhere. A lot of people consider ‘guilty pleasure movies’ as the ones you love, but everyone else doesn’t like. To me it means movies I love with just okay or bad ratings. Here they are!
10. Take Me Home Tonight
Whenever someone asks me to recommend a comedy that they most likely have never see, this is it. It wasn’t to successful at the box office or with the critics, but it hit me exactly where a comedy should. It was so outrageously over the top that made it so perfectly fun for me. Plus the cast includes Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt, and Dan Fogler.
“Whatever you’re going to do, it’s what you’re going to be. I don’t know what I want to be, yet.”
“Matt, take a shot at something. Don’t think about it too much. Just take the shot.”
“Tonight we’re not thinking… just doing.”
9. Need for Speed
There’s three things that made this one very, very enjoyable for me. First, I’m a total car guy. I love driving them, I love working on them, and I especially love seeing them in action like this. Two, the video game versions is one of my favorite franchises and the movie did them pretty good justice. Three, Aaron Paul is one badass dude. He couldn’t have been a better choice for this part, crossing my fingers there’s a sequel and he is involved.
“You’re going to have to answer for what you’ve done… We’ll settle this behind the wheel.”
“Racers should race, cops should eat donuts.”
“Racing is an art but racing with passion, that’s high art, and I think that’s Tobey Marshall racing the chariot of the gods.”
8. The Island
I really started getting into movies around the time this came out and this was one of the first movies I was kind of ‘introduced’ to by my dad – it was awesome at the time and still is. It had Obi-Wan Kenobi in it and a damn good looking blonde, plus the idea still holds up today. You watch it and think, wow maybe this could happen in the not so distant future.
“My name is Lincoln Six-Echo. I’m your insurance policy.”
“Jeez, why do I always have to be the one to tell the kids there is no Santa Claus?”
“Well, excuse me, Miss “I’m-so-smart-I-can’t-wait-to-go-to-the-Island!””
7. Van Helsing
Just like above, this was around the time I was really getting into movies and the first time I was truly introduced into this vampire/werewolf world. It was pretty damn cool and to see the guy who was (and still is) Wolverine from X-Men hunting down monsters with a girl from another guilty pleasure in Underworld (and total crush) was just awesome. It may be frowned upon by many, but it was and still is a lot of fun and very enjoyable movie for me.
“It’s alive. It’s alive. It’s alive!”
“I think if you’re going to kill somebody, kill them! Don’t stand around talking about it!”
“Hello Gabriel. You don’t remember me? Allow me to refresh your memory I am Count Vladilaus Dracula, we have some history you and I.”
A movie about overcoming every odd put against you and achieving greatness? Count me in! Usually you think it be a sports movie, but on an epic horse race through some of the roughest part of the world? It’s one incredible story and journey that I personally can’t get over. Plus it being Viggo just adds the extra kick!
“Mister… you can say anything you want about me. I’m gonna have to ask you not to talk about my horse that way.”
“Let ‘er buck.”
“If I had the ability to foretell the future, perhaps I would have bet on a painted horse.”
5. TRON: Legacy
I never saw the original or new about this world of Tron before watching this, but my oh my did I love it! I think it’s such an unbelievable and creative world that can be touched on in anyway possible. The bikes, the disc wars, the colors – it’s fun, exciting, and all kinds of awesome to watch. Plus I’m a big fan of Garrett Hedlund and Oliva Wilde (who isn’t?), so that definitely helps. I’ve been hoping for a sequel ever since and will continue waiting because this is a really interesting world.
“You- You promised that we would change the world, together. You broke your promise…”
“I’m a User, I’ll improvise.”
“Some things are worth the risk.”
How can I not love a Star Wars parody? A movie that kicked off the entire ‘parody’ movie world, it’s the best of its kind. It’s outrageous and hilarious in every way possible!
“You listen. On this ship, you’re to refer to me as ‘idiot’, not ‘you captain’. I mean, you know what I mean.”
“You have the ring, and I see your Schwartz is as big as mine. Now let’s see how well you handle it.”
“Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star. I am your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.”
3. Top Gun
I almost couldn’t consider this in this group because it’s got to be one of my favorites of all time. At this time, Tom Cruise was hitting his stride and making classic movies left and right – this is by far my favorite out of them. One of the few, if any, great fighter pilot movies ever. It was exhilarating, heartbreaking, and breathtaking – becoming one of the most ‘fun’ movies ever. The amount of quotes that are said over and over again from this movie will never end, as they shouldn’t!
“Because I was inverted.”
“Communicating. Keeping up foreign relations. You know, giving him the bird!”
“That’s right, Iceman, I am dangerous.”
2. Gone in Sixty Seconds
Nic Cage, a movie about cars, and my favorite car of all time? This was easily in my top guilty pleasures. I can see how it didn’t get good ratings, but I just love the crap out of this movie. It’s awesome in every way, and not to mention I get every car name I’ve used or will use from the list of the beautiful list of cars boosted. I would kill to be Memphis Raines for a day. Eleanor!
“You lazy, half-ass bully! Any asshole can pull a gun on somebody! You don’t know the first thing about stealing a car! Boy! You need a role model!”
“See ya tomorrow night, Eleanor, with your fine ass.”
“I just stole fifty cars in one night! I’m a little tired, little *wired*, and I think I deserve a little appreciation!”
1. Varsity Blues
How can this not be my number one? If you haven’t seen this, you need to. This would be the number one movie I would recommend to anyone. It is the definition of a guilty pleasure movie. It’s hard for me to even think people didn’t like it because how awesome it is! This is one of the few movies I could watch once every so many months for the rest of my life and never get tired of it, yeah it’s that awesome.
“Jonathan Moxon your are under arrest for not being naked with some sophomore chick who wants to bathe you with her tongue, now take off your god damn clothes and get in the car.”
“Well we’re all naked in there and we’ve got handcuffs and cool shit to play with so take off your clothes and get in the car.”
“These kids there just running around wild these days. Them kids last night they stole a cop car.”
