At this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man is by far Marvel’s biggest risk. It may be known by regular comic fans, but by the main audience it’s hardly known at all. And when people think of a superhero who can shrink in size, while keeping his strength and being able to communicate with ants, they will most likely say ‘whaaaa?’. Its definitely had its trouble, but now it’s on track again and shooting has begun. We saw Paul Rudd as Scott Lang weeks back, now we get the first glimpse of Michael Douglass as Hank Pym.
As far as the comics go, most people know Hank Pym as Ant-Man. But like most comic book characters, many characters have gone under the same superhero name. For Ant-Man, the other is Scott Lang. I won’t go into detail of when, why, or how, but he does. And for Ant-Man, the movie, Hank Pym has been doing this superhero thing for some time so he’s a bit older, and now it’s up to Scott Lang to continue the name.
Like I said earlier, Paul Rudd is in the lead as Scott Lang, who will most likely be Ant-Man in the MCU for many movies. As for the man behind Ant-Man and the mentoring, that will be up to Hank Pym played by the awesome Michael Douglass.
There have been rumors for some time now that Pym, in the MCU, having a connection to the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D. back in the day. Rumors floating around about a possible scene with Pym, Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Alexander Pierce – Hydra’s leader from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Other than that, it’ll be interesting to see how his character plays out. Is it just a one and done to bring in Lang? Is his character just for the Ant-Man solo movies? Or will Pym play a large role in the MCU? Won’t find out until next summer.
Ant-Man is currently in production with a July 17th, 2015 release date.
