First Look: Bradley Cooper in Clint Eastwood's 'American Sniper'

'American Sniper' LogoWe finally have our first look at Clint Eastwood’s upcoming drama starring Bradley Cooper, titled American Sniper. The images aren’t really anything special, but they are enough to make sure people know that there are other movies coming out the final months of 2014 other than those involving Panem or a Hobbit.

If anything, these images really show us the hard work Cooper put in to fully capture the role of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. He put on a whopping 40 pounds of muscle, completely transforming himself from the usual Cooper we know.

The trailer should be up soon, especially since the movie is set for 2014. But if that nor these images aren’t enough for you, check out this intense synopsis for the movie:

U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world. Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the SEAL creed to “leave no man behind.” But upon returning to his wife and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.

I’ve said it before, I’m a complete sucker for war movies, of all kind. Especially the sniper side of it, there’s something of that trade that intrigues me. Not to mention that from the synopsis, it seems like this can very well end up being a very very drama heavy movie. Following the ‘most lethal sniper in U.S. military history’ is something that can be extremely dark and gritty with all the sorts of things those guys go through. Looking though those lenses and all the things they see, on top of all the brutal and gory kills they do (one-shots). If this is done right (which I hope it is), it’ll be a very intense, dramatic, and hopefully violent movie.

American Sniper opens on limited release on December 25th, 2014. Directed by Clint Eastwood starring Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Jake McDorman, Kyle Gallner, Luke Grimes, Sam Jaeger, Keir O’Donnell, and Brian Hallisay.
