Everyone know’s how popular Netflix is today with all of its streaming of movies, TV shows, and their own original content. Many companies and properties are now considering and turning to Netflix as a way to distribute their brand and/or shows, with Marvel being no exception.
Within the past year we have heard that Marvel is going to begin a four show series on Netflix that will showcase four different Marvel characters who will eventually come together to form ‘The Defenders’ (another superhero team up in the Marvel comics).
While not much more information has come out regarding ‘The Defenders’ series on Netflix, there are a few things we do know. First off, they will begin with a ‘Daredevil’ series in 2015 and rightfully so considering he is probably the most popular character in this Netflix Marvel Universe which also includes Iron Fist, Luke Cage (aka Power Man) and Jessica Jones.
We know a few of the cast members on the Daredevil show as well, including Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Elden Henson ( The Mighty Ducks franchise) as Foggy Nelson, and Rosario Dawson as an unspecified role but she will most likely be Elektra, at least I think (and hope) so.

No casting news regarding the other shows has been released as far as I know, but the real question is whether these characters will exist among the rest of the MCU and if we will ever see the likes of Daredevil, Iron Fist, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones in a Marvel film.
Well it looks like the Netflix series’ will be in the same universe as the MCU according to comments made by Marvel’s super producer Kevin Feige. According to flickeringmyth.com Feige spoke with Total Film on this very subject and here’s what he had to say:
“I think the television division first and foremost need to make great TV shows that stand on their own. But because it is Marvel, we do think they will all fall under the umbrella of the Cinematic Universe, the way Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. does now, the way the Agent Carter series will, so I do think that Daredeviland Jessica Jones and the other ones [Iron Fist and Luke Cage] will have a loose connection to the overall storyline. But, just like the most important thing for us with each film is that each film works independently and stands alone as a great movie, and then the fun part is it connecting to the other world; I think the TV group is doing the exact same thing with each series.”
These comments tell me all I need to know in order to put it all together. I believe that it is only beneficial to make the four Netflix shows in the same universe as the movies but Feige is absolutely right when he says that the shows need to stand alone as great shows first and that is what’s most important. I personally would love to see ‘Daredevil’ and company crossover into some of the movies and vice versa as well.
What do you guys think? Would it be cool to see the TV shows and Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover or should they keep it separate? Express your thoughts in the comment section.
