David Fincher’s Gone Girl can either end your marriage or be the best date movie

Gone Girl T

Okay it probably won’t be either, but it’ll definitely be one of the more interesting movies that you and your significant other can watch in theaters together. Gone Girl, based off the same titled book by Gillian Flynn, is the story of Nick and Amy Dunne (Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike) who struggle with their marriage. One morning Nick wakes up to find his wife missing. When the police arrive, what looks like a break in to Nick looks more like signs of a scuffle between the couple to the police. As the investigation goes further and further, Nick is starting to look like a suspect towards the public. When it becomes unbearable, Nick goes on a search to find his wife.

Gone Girl is due out October 3rd this year. In an interview with Empire, both Director David Fincher and star Ben Affleck think of this film as the perfect date movie. While Fincher may or may not have joked that Gone Girl will end 15 million marriages, Affleck sees the benefit of couples having different takes on the result and talking about it. Rosamund Pike who plays Amy Dunne weighed in also, saying something I found a lot more interesting about marriage ideas. That aspect of marriage as a con game, or whatever. The idea that we perform a sort of ideal version of ourselves that the other person wants. We perhaps belie our true nature in order to perform to the ideal.

From what we seen in the first two trailers with all the conflict between the married couple, this film can be an unpleasant reality at just how bad a person can be impacted by an unhealthy marriage. Just my opinion though, I’ve never been married. One thing I’ll be surely keeping an eye on are the couple’s reactions in the theater once the movie ends. See the trailer for Gone Girl below.
