Rumor: Will 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' End with Two Avenger Teams?

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Official logoOver the years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have seen Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige be very, very vague about Marvel’s upcoming movies. But one thing has never changed, he has never lied or told us something that doesn’t happen. He said Thanos would be in Guardians of the Galaxy years before it was made, that happened. He said Captain America: The Winter Soldier would change the MCU as we knew it, it did. There are a good amount of other teases that have yet to be seen or pay off (I think they will eventually), but one concerning the Avengers as a team may be the most intriguing of them all.

Even though Feige adores his Avenger members of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye – he has always said that he loves the fact that the core members can always be changed along this MCU journey. And just because that’s the team through 8 solo movies, the first The Avengers movie, and next year’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron – that doesn’t mean that will be the team we see moments before the end credits start rolling next May.

Before we get started let me just say, WARNING as there are potential major spoilers for The Avengers: Age of Ultron. If you don’t want any spoilers I would suggest stopping now, continue at your own risk.

A new (and completely awesome) rumor has been making it’s way through the mill, suggesting that one of King Feige’s future statements will come true. In which by the end of Age of Ultron next year, the Avengers roster could be significantly shaken up.

Badass Digest broke the story, where it seems they have some pretty good knowledge of an Age of Ultron script, most likely an early draft. Let’s get right into it! Here is what BD had to say in their article:

“At the end of Age of Ultron, Cap will assemble a team that is a mix of familiar and new faces, leading forward into Phase Three. It’s an exciting mission statement for Marvel Studios, letting audiences know that the Avengers team is more than just the guys who were in the first film. The make-up of that team is, technically, up in the air until that scene is shot (I suspect it’s being saved for either scheduled reshoots or will be snuck into the schedule of Captain America 3, which goes before cameras early next year), but Joss Whedon’s script did indicate who would be on that team. I won’t reveal all the names – and some have changed in between drafts, by the way – but one character who has always been in this new team is Captain Marvel.”

Captain Marvel

/Film had this to add:

“Badass also surmises the actual members of this scene – if it’s in the film at all – might not be decided on for months. Filming it would likely be part of scheduled reshoots or pick ups, which would give Marvel time to cast some new characters and simply keep the mystery longer. Ms. Marvel could still show up there. Plus uou’d have to imagine characters like Doctor Strange and Ant-Man could end up here so audiences get acquainted with them leading into Phase 3. You’d also guess Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be part of the team by the end of the film.”

Woah, another team of Avengers?! If true, the big question, what in the hell happens to push Captain America towards bringing another team together? Is there a clash between the core members of the team we know. Does someone die? Do a few of them die? Do some give up being superheroes? The possibilities are truly endless at this point as it seems the scene won’t be fully decided and/or shot for months.

Let’s talk about characters though… The biggest is obviously Captain Marvel, as fans for a very long time now (I’m one of those whose been begging) have been wanting Carol Danvers to join the MCU. If these end up being true, it looks like we may be getting our wish! More to think about is with Ant-Man and Doctor Strange both now in the works, it would seem fit for Cap to recruit them for his team. Plus, in the comics, both Doctor Strange and Ant-Man have both had better relationships with Cap rather than Tony Stark, as it seems they could end up being the two team leaders.

What about the official new characters of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch? Most of us didn’t think they would just be a one movie thing and with this new rumor out, where will these two end up? I would put my money on them joining Cap, but I wouldn’t doubt them joining the other team as well, we’ll just have to wait and see how the movie and character relationships play out for the twins.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson & Elizabeth Olsen in 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'

The article says ‘familiar and new faces’. After the events of The Winter Soldier and the growth of Captain America and Black Widow’s relationship, could we see Widow join Cap’s team if this all happens? I can see her on Cap’s side more than Stark’s anyway of the week. Not just Widow either, just a few days ago Jeremy Renner stated that there was rumblings of Hawkeye being in Captain America 3. If he ends up being in the threequel, then it’s sure a safe bet that he’s on Cap’s side.

Jeremy Renner & Scarlett Johansson in 'The Avengers'

Don’t forget about Falcon or Winter Soldier either. Both were introduced in The Winter Soldier and they are for sure in the long term plans for Marvel. With both characters having extremely close ties to Captain America in the comics (Flacon is Cap’s best friend and Winter Soldier is Bucky, Cap’s life-long friend). It’s another damn safe bet they would be on Cap’s side, once they get Bucky/Winter Soldier back that is.

Anthony Mackie in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Sebastian Stan in 'The Winter Soldier'

With all that being said, let’s just take a look at what possible Avenger team rosters could be following the end of The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Avengers: Iron Man, Thor, War Machine, Lady Sif, Vision, (Hulk, Black Widow, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Black Panther?).

The New Avengers: Captain America, Hawkeye, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, (Hulk, Black Widow, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Black Panther?).

Now those are some awesome looking Avenger rosters! If this all ends up being true, Marvel will have once again blown us away and raised the bar for their future movies. Many of us didn’t think Marvel would take the risk and bring so many characters to life in such a short span and without the big names having solo movies first, but it looks like we may be getting all the characters we ever dreamed of in one cohesive cinematic universe.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on May 1st, 2015. Directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlet Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Haley Atwell (rumored), Josh Brolin (rumored), Paul Bettany, James Spader, and Thomas Kretschmann.
