Expendables 4, Shanghai Dawn, or Rush Hour 4 – Next Jackie Chan film?

Jackie Chan

It’s been a while since we seen Jackie Chan on the big screen. His last role in a widely release film was back in 2010’s The Karate Kid as Mr. Han. The martial arts legend has recently talked about doing sequels to some of his past hits and possibly joining a franchise that fans have been wanting to see. I’m obviously talking about Expendables 4, and the other two being Rush Hour 4 and Shanghai Dawn.

While the Expendables franchise seems pretty done with it’s underwhelming and kind of sad opening weekend, the actor was approached by Stallone once again to this time join Expendables 4. Chan has been hesitant to join the franchise due to the over crowded casting in the first two (now 3) films. Chan told Stallone during discussions, ‘Sly, can’t we just do you and me? Not just a bunch of people and me only coming out for five minutes.’ Because then the audience is, ‘Oh!’ And then I’m gone.’ An excellent point is brought up Chan, these films have gotten overcrowded and if a star like Jackie Chan is in the Expendables, I don’t want him to get the Jet Li treatment

As for Rush Hour 4, I don’t see a point in doing another after the latest one was the weakest I felt. It seems Chan feels the same way when approached by the studio on the idea of a fourth film. “I said ‘No, show me the script first. I don’t need another Rush Hour 4. You need Rush Hour 4. Show me the script.’ I don’t want to do a rubbish script just because they want to make the movie.”

As a movie fan I appreciate Jackie Chan’s comments, he doesn’t want to do these cash grab movies and nor should he. He is currently 60 years old and has given us plenty of memorable and fun action flicks. The right to chose only projects that interest him is one that he has earned. One of the surprising reports mentioned that Jackie Chan has been talking to people about doing Shanghai Dawn, the sequel to Shanghai Noon & Shanghai Knights. I wouldn’t mind seeing a third Shanghai film, the first two were really good and you can tell Chan was having fun in those films. I’m sure Owen Wilson could use a hit as well.

Chan is also set to reprise his role as Mr. Han in The Karate Kid 2. What sequels mentioned above would you like to Jackie Chan do Movie Talkers?
