It’s unfortunate for movie fans, but a smart move by Warner Bros to move their biggest and riskiest film Batman V Superman release date off the same day as a Marvel film (Cap 3). Many fans, including myself were excited to get two major Comic Book films released on the same day. However, after seeing the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, which made an amazing $94 million on it’s opening weekend, Warner Bros decided to move it’s big film off it’s announced May 6, 2016 date to now March 25, 2016.
Releasing a blockbuster in March has proven to be successful in the past and is increasingly becoming a popular month. Regardless of how Warner Bros may look with moving BvS release date a second time, it’s a smart move when considering just how strong the Marvel brand is today. The studio has so much riding on the success of Batman V Superman, besides the fact that it’s their two biggest superhero icons in one film, that it cannot afford potential losses especially when released the same day as Captain America 3.
Along with announcing it’s new release date for Batman V Superman, the studio has released a slate of release dates for untitled DC projects.
Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice – 03/25/16
Untitled DC Film – 08/05/16
Untitled DC Film – 06/23/17
Untitled DC Film – 11/17/17
Untitled DC Film – 03/23/18
Untitled DC Film – 07/27/18
Untitled WB Event Film – 11/16/18
Untitled DC Film – 04/05/19
Untitled DC Film – 06/14/19
Untitled DC Film – 04/03/20
Untitled DC Film – 06/19/20
Untitled WB Event Film – 11/20/20
I’m gonna go ahead and say that the untitled event films will be the DC superhero team up Justice League film. Two of those slots are destined to be Man of Steel sequels, while I’m still waiting for Dwayne Johnson to confirm a Shazzam movie. As for Batman, when WB signs on a star like Ben Affleck it’s safe to assume it was with the intention of giving the character a solo film. As for Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot is signed to a three picture deal and her role in Batman V Superman is said to be a cameo, at the most being a small part. So the door is open on her appearing in a solo film, along with appearances in both WB event films. This is all just a prediction, and with Waner Bros/DC being so tight lipped with their film announcements, my guess could be way off.
What DC superhero films do you think we will get in the release dates announced Movie Talkers? More importantly, what do you want to see? Also, what does DC moving off their shared release date with Marvel tell you? Let us know what you think!
