So far, everything that has come out on the Guardians of the Galaxy movie has been focused on the team itself. Rightfully so because they are so unknown to about 90% of moviegoers. Now with the movie only 3 weeks away, James Gunn has now taken it into his hands to let us get looks at other characters for his MCU movie.
James Gunn took to his Twitter page to release these new posters. For the Yondu poster (played by Michael Rooker) he said, “Yondu poster yo. #gotg #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy @Michael_Rooker.” For Corpsman Dey (played by John C. Reilly) the caption read, “Even the Nova Corps need beat cops. #gotg #guardiansofthegalaxy.” And for the Nova Prime (played by Glenn Close) he wrote, “Boss Lady: Glenn Close as Nova Prime Irani Rael. #gotg #guardiansofthegalaxy.” Behind the Guardians themselves and the villains, these faces should be mainstays in this universe for many movies to come.
These are only a few of the massive amount of faces and characters we will see in this newly introduced universe. The universe the Guardians operate in is literally endless at this point, it is much much bigger than what the Avengers universe have done so far; so we will be seeing an array of new species and worlds in their travels.
In the MCU, both teams operate within the same universe/time and they will make contact and possibly team-up together in the near future (rumored for Avengers 3). But for now, this new movie will expand the MCU cosmically and open up an incredible amount of possibilities for the future of these Marvel movies. As someone who reads the comics on the Avengers and Guardians, it’s very exciting to see Marvel expanding and creating a universe where two awesome but different teams are playing huge parts at the same time. I can’t wait to see where the MCU will be 5 years down the road.
Guardians of the Galaxy will open in theaters on August 1st, 2014. Directed by James Gunn starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, and Josh Brolin.
