Early Reactions: Could 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Be Another Game-Changer for Marvel?

Chris Pratt in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'Fans across the country are getting an extended look at Guardians of the Galaxy thanks to Disney and their theme parks. The public can now get 9 minutes of footage of the movie at both Disneyland in California and Disney World Resort in Florida. Along with the fans, some high profile moviegoers got to watch and have weighed in on what they saw.

Based on all the feedback that’s coming in from the viewings, it sounds like Marvel could possibly have another complete hit on their hands – somewhere in the Avengers range I might add. A good amount of people are comparing it to both Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes Back (in style). Considering how unbelievable, popular, and loved both those movies are – it’s a very big and bright sign that it’s even mentioned in the same sentence with them. If it can capture anything that those movies did, this movie will not just appeal to the teenage/young adult generation, but the older generation as well as creating a completely new young movie generation just like those two movies did so many years ago. Here are just some of the glowing words floating around about Guardians of the Galaxy.

Scott Muchow of Aggressive Comix had this to say, “I thought it was awesome. Was it straight out of Raiders (Of The Lost Ark) and Empire (Strikes Back)? Damn right….and I loved it! Right down to the artifact from a pedestal and the ‘bad guys’ setting up a tripod cannon while the Falcon flies away. I don’t care, those movies are part of my core geek and well done allusions to them are the bubbles in the champagne.”

Sean Gerber of Moder Myth Media wrote this, “The dynamic between the members of the team (Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, Gamora, and Drax) really clicks, especially Rocket and Groot. The space action looks nothing less than spectacular and is sure to thrill between, and at times, alongside all the witty banter. Ultimately, Guardians of the Galaxy looks to be its own, unique concept and film, but feelings similar to those I experienced during my first viewings of Star Wars and Indiana Jones popped up here.”

Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm tweeted out, “Saw 9 minutes of @JamesGunn’s @Guardians : so funny, full of cool and wonder. Made me feel like a kid again. And yes, @prattprattpratt was so funny in the 9 minute preview of @Guardians. Kids are gonna love him, and Rocket, and groot. So good.”

Furious Fanboys‘ Jeremy Conrad said, “The footage shown is very cool, lots of fun, and fits what you’d expect from both a Guardians of the Galaxy and James Gunn movie. We only have a few weeks before this is in theaters, and just based on these nine minutes the wait has definitely been worth it.”

The word is out and it’s tremendous. If there is anything to take away from just these few, it’s that Guardians of the Galaxy may possibly be the best all Marvel movie we’ll see since The Avengers hit two years ago. It’s a little over 3 weeks away and from what’s being said so far, the wait will definitely be worth it.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1st, 2014. Directed by James Gunn starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, and Josh Brolin.
