Each major action, sci-fi, or any other kind of blockbuster have now fallen to the idea of a must have ‘hottie’ for the appeal. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great seeing these beautiful women in these movies, whether they are truly part of the movie or not. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t – but the one thing that has stayed the same is the awe of hotness. With Transformers: Age of Extinction out last friday, let’s take a look and compare the three ‘transformer girls’ from the four movies.
I will be going over this match-up from my least favorite to my favorite, that doesn’t mean I hate one and love the other. It’s a simple ranking and comparison from my own opinion.
When I had heard that Megan Fox wouldn’t be back from T3, I was very confused. I just didn’t understand why she wouldn’t be back to finish the trilogy out. Yes, her character had pretty much served her purpose at that point and there wasn’t much further Sam and Mikayla’s relationship could have gone, but why switch then? Then I heard the rumors and news and basically said whatever. Then they announced the new ‘Transformer girl’ and I had no idea. Then I took a look and instantly knew it was once again for the appeal, more than ever.
Although I did like that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley played a completely seperate character, it was my least favorite – for a few reasons (none including looks). One, there still hasn’t been a model turned actress who has impressed enough. Two, it was her first real movie role and it was the biggest blockbuster of the year. Lastly, her role probably could have been taken out and not changed much of the movie at all. There were definitely moments that interested me because I thought she did a good job for a first timer, but once again Bay went for the hottie appeal. Huntington-Whiteley will definitely get better as she goes, but I would have liked to seen a better up and coming actress take that role and really make the character more relevant and interesting – even if it was just for the trilogy finale.
One thing was for sure when getting a first look at the first Transformers movie – our child hood heroes were coming to the big screen in live action, it’s giant robots against giant robots, and Megan Fox was in it. At the time, Fox wasn’t the best-known actress out there, that certainly wasn’t the case afterwards. There is no question that Fox is downright gorgeous and atop many of those hot lists. But following the release, she was also atop everyones ‘I want to work’ with lists, putting her right in the middle of the spotlight.
She may be stunningly beautiful, but I will say she isn’t the best actress. She isn’t bad or terrible, she’s just good. Now for many (including myself), her looks take that over. She did end up having a big role in the movie, but let’s be honest, she was mainly there for her looks. It didn’t help that Michael Bay had her character be a total car buff/grease monkey who ends up looking at a Camaro’s engine while bending over the hood at one point with a short skirt and shirt that shows plenty of skin (including other teasing moments through the two movies). Come on, really?! As of now, she is the only one on the list with more than one Transformer credit to her bio (I’m sure that will change soon). Even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the teenage love story taking top spot to some other major ‘alien invasion’ threats going on in the original trilogy, I did enjoy seeing LaBeouf and her on screen together – thought they paired well together.
I’m one of those who believe in Megan Fox’ looks but not her skills. She is a double above average beauty with below average to average acting skills. That doesn’t take anything away from the movie or role because that’s exactly what it was, it wasn’t a role with a chance at an oscar. A role that needs an absolutely beauty and beauty who can entertain enough to keep the movie and story rolling.
Yes, that means that I have put the most recent girl at the top and it’s not just because she is the most recent. I have been a personal fan of Nicola Peltz for a few years now, ever since I saw the first episode of Bates Motel. When I heard she was going to become the female lead for one of my most beloved movie franchises, I was jumping for joy. With this new trilogy starting off with a whole new human cast, that meant that now Huntington-Whiteley wouldn’t be returning. I thought Michael Bay went a fabulous route, going with a father-daughter relationship before the teenage love story. Meaning, why not get one of the best looking and most skilled young talents out there in Nicola Peltz?
She took my top spot for multiple reasons. First off is the obvious, she is beautiful. I personally think she is the best looking out of the three and has only been moving up my leaderboard very quickly here lately. Next, she is young and this is her first big movie. That means that Bay can use her for multiple movies and there should be no problems of bringing her back for sequels like what happened with Megan Fox. Next, with the signing on of Mark Wahlberg, why not get someone who is already close to him? Wahlberg has said that he knew Peltz as she grew up and they are close with a good relationship. How will that not show on screen? No worry there because their chemistry was one of the highlights of the movie. Lastly, she is easily the best actress out of the three. Over the past few years, we have only seen a few young woman get away from their good looks and wow people with their acting skills. Watch out, because Peltz is doing it at 19. This is her first major movie as a real name and she shows everyone why she will be an absolute star for many years to come. There’s no way she couldn’t take my top spot!
This is a topic that can be debated and argued many different ways because every other person is a fan of someone different. i’ve given you personal thoughts, opinion, and ranking – what are yours?
