A few years back we were brought the universe of The Purge. A movie on America where all crime is down to almost nothing because of one night a year called the Purge, where all crime (including murder) is legal for twelve straight hours. After centering around what happens to one family on that night in the original, the sequel seems to be going down a different and darker path, which was much needed.
I personally wish I would have loved the first one. It is such a fresh and new idea and something that could realistically happen in our future if crime doesn’t go down. It’s highly doubtful, but completely possible. An exclusive trailer for The Purge: Anarchy has been released and this might be the selling point for me. Quite frankly, I haven’t been sold on this sequel yet, even with Frank Grillo in the lead. But after seeing this trailer with all kinds of brand new footage, it looks like it can be freaky as hell and definitely something worth watching.
The Purge: Anarchy opens in theaters on July 18th, 2014. Directed by James DeMonaco starring Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams, Amy Paffrath, Carmen Ejogo, Justina Machado, and Brandon Keener.
