Review: White House Down

White House Down PosterCapitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service. Not wanting to let down his hopeful daughter, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the building is taken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. With the government falling into chaos, it’s up to Cale to get free, save the President and his daughter, and stop the White House from falling.

After watching the entertaining and cool Olympus Has Fallen earlier this year, I was pretty anxious to see what White House Down would show us. And to be quite honest, both films couldn’t have picked a better lead actor to take back the building. With Channing Tatum in this role, I was very excited. I do love him as an actor with all of his attributed; comedic, dramatic, and total action star status. And this being his first real lead action role movie, I was pretty damn excited to see what he could show us in such a big role.

I can easily say that it was a highly fun, great, and entertaining movie for anyone and everyone. This movie has a plot to make it seem believable with a script that is good enough for us to overlook it. And although we saw another overtaken White House movie earlier this year, this one is a better overall movie. And I think that credit should be given to the perfect team of Tatum and Jamie Foxx, who plays President James Sawyer. Tatum playing a character who has multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan, he’s looking for something to give him a rush and is very important, what’s better than protecting the President? And Jamie Foxx playing that President, he is in a role that has made him become a politician who has no gun or fighting experience, just suits and ties. You wouldn’t think these kind of characters would click well, right? Well, they were on point the entire movie and it was a really good time for all who were watching.

WHD may seem like another high action movie with big guns, bombs and fighting. It is at times, but never goes to far over the top. But what really made me love this movie was the out of the blue funny moments we get from Tatum and Foxx while running around the halls of Olympus. I love having big and badass action scenes, don’t get me wrong. But what is even better are those scenes, but a break here in there to catch their breath or just to have some fun.

To conclude, White House Down is a fantastic movie for all to watch. A great movie to take your kids on the weekend or even a fun date movie. The guys get to see the awesome action and the girls get to look at Channing Tatum for 2 plus hours. But aside from that, it is an extremely fun and entertaining, with a serious side, movie from the second it all starts to go down.
