More news has arrived regarding sequels to the films ‘Now You See Me’ and ‘Olympus Has Fallen’, which I am very happy about. The news further confirms that these sequels are happening which should be a surprise to no one.
Starting with ‘Olympus Has Fallen’. First off, while watching the movie and seeing the way The White House was taken over I thought was poorly done and insulting to our nation’s secret service. But the action in the FILM really won me over. It was very intense and what I wanted to see from an actor like Gerald Butler. Speaking of Gerald according to Variety reports, he is the only one currently attached to the sequel titled ‘London Has Fallen’, which is kind of all you need really. I’ll be happy to have Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Aaron Eckhart back, but you need Gerald Butler. I like him in the lead action role because he’s great at it (300). At first, this sequel made sense financially, it nearly grossed $100 million domestically on a $70 million budget. Then I read the plot courtesy of Focus Features’s official release (see below) and the film can work. It’s a similar situation to the first film, but with much more on the line and it takes our hero away from home. So the potential is there.
‘London Has Fallen’ will be released on October 2, 2015.
The plot for ‘London Has Fallen’:
“The sequel to the worldwide smash hit “Olympus Has Fallen” begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the Western world. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable secret service head (Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.”
On to the next one with ‘Now You See Me’. This film had me really entertained from start to finish. Having magicians steal money from banks or the wealthy and give to the people was new to me. It also worked as each trick, each twist and turn did what it was trying to do. I loved the cast which had Jessie Eisenberg, James Franco, Isla Fisher and Woody Harrelson as the magicians, along with Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. The magicians had great chemistry and each person delivered. ‘Now You See Me’ made $117 million domestically and over $230 million internationally. The film was also well received by audiences.
According to an interview Dave Franco did with CinemaBlend, the script for the untitled sequel will have the spirit of the first film without being an exact copy of it. The film will also explore the magicians lives off the stage, since the first was almost entirely with them performing their acts. According to Franco, shooting will begin toward the end of the year which means we can expect a Fall 2015 release date. We now know Franco is returning, along with the director of the first film Louis Leterrier. Most of the cast is also expected to return. As long as it’s The Four Horsemen and their leader then I’m excited for this sequel. Keep on surprising these audiences.
Funny that Morgan Freeman starred in both of these films. You COULD say he is the reason for each film’s success.
