“Video game experts are recruited by the military to fight 1980s-era video game characters who’ve attacked New York”. If there was ever a plot that sounded more cool than this, tell me because I just can’t think of one right now.

The upcoming film is based off a 2010 short film called Pixels, both written and directed by Patrick Jean. The film won Best Short Film at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and received high praise. Pixels will be produced by Columbia Pictures and Happy Madison productions. The film stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad (21), with recent additions Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Michelle Monaghan (True Detective). Directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter 1 & 2, Mrs. Doubtfire).

Pixels

When I first came across Pixels, I thought the plot sounded very cool. The names Adam Sandler and Kevin James made me uneasy about this film. Sandler haunted my dreams for awhile with Jack and Jill, not to mention most of his recent films lack in quality. Kevin James was great in Here Comes the Boom but I don’t want a Paul Blart 2. But after watching the animated short film and hearing the castings of Peter Dinklage and Michelle Monaghan, I started getting more and more excited about this. If your an 80’s baby or even a 90’s baby like myself you should be excited regardless.

Pixels is set to be released sometime in 2015.
